Independence

OMG. I'm all about full disclosure and honesty, but there is a time and a place. The wife of one of the guys that I work with (one of the few...er, well okay, two guys that I actually like) had a baby yesterday. Their third child. They have two boys and now a little girl. Sweet, right? Well the boss seems to think he has the right to judge and comment whenever and wherever to whomever he wants to. And it's not nice stuff. Not vicious, but not nice. Asking when they had enough, or how many jobs he was going to get to pay for it all, or making jokes about basketball teams. When we found out yesterday, the boss couldn't stop talking about what a huge baby and poor [wife's name] and on and on and on. My initial reaction was "Thank goodness you only had one and no wonder she ended up the basket case she did." Then the boss got talking to a client, explaining why [co-worker] would not be in for a week at least - he shared the details, and then said "...they're done after this, she's getting her tubes tied..." OMG!!!! A little discretion here dude. First, if it were me, I would not have told the boss that. Second, if it were me, I would not have told the client that. Thirdly, if it ever IS me, I am SO not telling anyone in the office. Anything. At. All. I don't need the boss talking my personal affairs all over the office and the CLIENTS definitely DO NOT need to know. Jeepers, boss man.

How was your holiday? July 4th is one of those days off with no family obligations, no travel necessary, no real preparation needed...it was nice. And next year it's on a Friday so 3-day weekend! Nicer. This 4th we had a flag ceremony at church at 8am with a pancake breakfast that followed. We had enough people that the singing didn't seem weak even though we were outside, and not so many that we ran out of breakfast. (It's always so hard to estimate for church activities. With volunteer clergy and leaders, there's sometimes less interest in participating) It seemed kinda disjointed while we were planning it but in the end it came out okay. We just hung out at home the rest of the day. Made a pie. Read. Watched the illegal fireworks (not ours) from our front porch. It was cool. Not the illegal part of course. However, ours is a neighborhood where the law is...more of a suggestion then a fact. So we get lots of firecrackers and sparklers in the street (which ARE legal) and then the big ones in the sky (which are NOT). The only down side is they aren't timed and there's no music, so sometimes there are dozens at once and then there's nothing for a while.

The fifth image in this slide show is probably the saddest thing I have ever seen and the number one reason why we as a species have to learn how to get along. A little less judgement and a little more compassion, people of the world, ALL people of the world. Just a little.

This is me considering.

That picture brought tears to my eyes. Not bc children were playing at executing each other, but bc two could make another so scared that he's crying and then laugh about it. That's what's scary. The lack of empathy. That's what's dangerous about these kids growing up.

And yes, very low-brow of your boss to take personal info so lightly.
